Dog Food Drive
It
is clear that we will never be able to to make our dreams of running
the Iditarod a reality without a lot of help. We will need not only
a remarkable canine team, but we will also need to enlist the financial
support necessary to help with our operating costs so that we can
provide appropriately for our dogs and be able to concentrate our
efforts and energy into training our team.
The scope and magnitude of what it
takes to compete at the sport of long distance dog mushing is enormous..
It takes a lot of time to gain experience and allow the dogs to
mature. It is also extremely expensive. To prepare appropriately,
every month we are spending $3000 on dog food, $500 on fuel, $300
on dog booties, $100 on straw, and $100 on batteries. We estimate
that the feeding and veterinary care of a kennel of dogs costs about
$2.00 per dog, per day.
We are doing everything we can in
order to field the most competitive sled dog team possible. However,
we are limited by our resources. We need your help in order to make
these dreams a reality. We are currently doing a dog food drive.
We are searching for people willing to help our team by buying us
one bag of dog food a month. By contributing to
our team you have the opportunity to take part in a historic Northern
tradition, without any risk of frostbite!
The current price for a bag of dog
food is $40. Our team consumes 60 bags a month. You can sign up
on right here for a “dog food subscription” and paypal
will bill your credit card $40 a month. Alternatively, you can mail
us a monthly check or better yet, if your bank offers online bill
pay, let them send it to us. By contributing, not only will you
be an important part of our team but you will also receive a monthly
training update including lots of great photos and breif tales of
our dogs in action and our lives here in the rustic North.
Thank you in advance for your contribution,
we can’t do it without you! You can be proud to be involved
with the last great race and the next great sled dog team!
Thank you so much for your help,
Caitlin and Mike
